Churches in Ware Parish

Christ Church Ware

New Road Ware Herts
(01920) 487267
http://www.christchurchware.co.uk

Christ Church is a lively, growing Christian community that seeks to live out Jesus' calling, in the power of the Spirit, here in Ware and beyond.

People of all ages and stages are welcome and there is something for everyone from seniors to babies and all ages in-between. Each person brings something that will add colour and creativity to the church family and we want everyone to feel welcomed and accepted and to find a place of belonging and fulfilment.

Jesus said ‘Come, follow me' and as a church we seek to hear Jesus' voice so that we are Jesus Led.

Jesus said, ‘I have come that you might have life and have it to the full,' and as a church of ordinary people we want to be Spirit Empowered that we might be His people, in His strength.

Jesus said, ‘As the father sent me, so I am sending you'. We have found God's love and care and have experienced God's grace in all that Jesus has done for us and we want to share that Grace with everyone - e becoming a ‘Grace Based' church in all we are and do.

As a church, our Identity is as a people belonging to God: 1 Peter 2:9

and we are called (our mission) to:

Love God and others: Matthew 22:37,

Be disciples who make disciples: Matthew 28: 19 and

Be a people who pray and proclaim God's Kingdom: Matthew 6:10, Acts 28: 31

We aim to be an authentic Acts 2: 42-47 church in today's world and live out our values of being:

• Worship centred

• Mission shaped.

• Grace based

• Word rooted

• Spirit empowered.

• Community transforming

• Prayer dependent

Sunday is a time when we come together for worship and teaching for adults, young people and children alike, with each group having their own time together. Our worship reflects different styles from a more traditional 9.15 am service, to our new contemporary evening worship. As a church we place a high value on worship, the ministry of the Word and Spirit, friendship and reaching out with the love of Jesus.

We have a network of Life Groups, which are relationally based and enable us to connect far deeper than just on a Sunday. We meet to share our lives and Christian experience through worship, learning from the scriptures and prayer, as well as enjoying lots of fun and food together! We seek to be outward-looking with groups having their own particular interests and focus.

There are many more things on offer, whether you are right at the start of your Christian journey, with many questions you want answers to, or well- established in your Christian faith. Please come and talk to me or the Welcome Team to find out more, especially about our welcome events.

St Mary's Ware

High Street Ware
01920 319236
http://www.stmarysware.co.uk

The Church of St Mary the Virgin Ware is an open and lively church community, worshipping in a beautiful historic building in the centre of Ware.

Guide booklets and information are available to help you explore the building, and there is often someone around to chat with. There are plenty of little corners for private prayer and reflection, with places to light a candle, leave a prayer request, read the bible, and sit quietly and contemplate. The sacrament is reserved in the Lady Chapel.

As you enter, on the left there is a bookstall for you to browse - and buy from. There are even some comfortable chairs if you want to sit and read what you have found.

There is level access from the South Porch and at both entrances via the Hall, and a ramp into the Lady Chapel. Currently we are not able to offer level access throughout, but we hope all visitors will have plenty to see and enjoy. There is an accessible toilet and a baby change facility.

There is evidence of there having been a church in Ware for over a thousand years. When the Domesday Book was prepared there was "a priest" at Ware. The church is mentioned in a charter given by William I to Hugh de Grentmaisnil giving permission to found a cell of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Evroul, Normandy, in Ware and handing over the church to the alien priory. During the 15th century the church was enlarged and beautified by Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond, mother of Henry VII.  The church is regarded as a fine example of 14th and 15th century architecture and contains many items of historic interest. St. Mary's has had a reputation for its music for over a hundred years. The Hill 3 manual organ was built in 1860. It was rebuilt in 1985 and refurbished in 2016.

A few more St Mary's dates and names

· There has been a Church on this site since the Norman Conquest, 1066

· Henry VIII gave the Priory, Living and the land to Trinity College, Cambridge in the Dissolution of the Monasteries

· The pews were installed in the 1880s

· Rev Charles Chaucey was the Vicar from 1627-1633. He emigrated to the USA and became President of Harvard College, Massachusetts

· Richard Fanshawe has connections with the Church. He was Charles I's ambassador to Spain, 1666
